Best iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Max cases

Do you need a case for the new iPhone 13 Pro? We have a few top choices for iPhone 13 Pro Max and Pro Max cases, and most are MagSafe compatible.

Although the dimensions of the iPhone 13 lineup model are identical to their iPhone 12 counterparts the new models feature notable design changes such as the camera bump on the back and a slightly thicker overall. While the iPhone 13 is not a complete redesign, it does include a few design tweaks that can make it difficult to fit older iPhone cases. You will have to buy a new case for any iPhone 13 model, including the iPhone 13 Pro/Pro Max.

What should I do if my MagSafe case is damaged?

The new iPhone 13 models come with Apple's MagSafe feature. This allows faster wireless charging when using compatible chargers. Magsafe wallet, mini wallets, various mounts, as well as other accessories are supported. These can be attached magnetically to your phone's back. Apple claims that the iPhone 13 features an array of magnets, similar to the iPhone 12. They are attached around a 15-watt charging coil.

If you want to use MagSafe accessories on your phone without taking it out of its case you will need a case with MagSafe. MagSafe is represented by a small circle with a pipe below. Clear cases can show it, but transparent cases won't. It is embedded on the inside of each case, so you will only be able to see it from there.

MagSafe compatible cases are a good choice if you already own a MagSafe accessory or plan to purchase MagSafe accessories. This is why most cases in this roundup have MagSafe.

MagSafe cases are more expensive

It is generally true that there are about $10 more. MagSafe cases can be purchased for as low as $20 but they are often more expensive than the $30 ones. We have seen cases made by different companies that look almost identical but don't have MagSafe. MagSafe versions usually go for $10 more. MagSafe compatibility can be a more affordable option than you might think.

What type of case should I purchase?

I like cases that don't feel too thick, yet offer good drop protection. Folio covers will protect your screen better.

Good news is that you don’t need to spend a lot of money on a case like the OtterBox Defender for good protection. Many cases are quite thin and provide at least 6-foot drop protection. One very thin case was included in the list, for those who need minimal protection. It is worth considering the price of your phone before purchasing a case. But it is better than not having any case at all. Protect your iPhone 13 with a sound tempered screen protector. This will prevent scratches deep into the glass and protect it from damage.

Many of these picks were based upon the positive experiences I had with the same brands for the iPhone 12 series (and other models). This list of the top iPhone 13 cases will be updated with new options as soon as they become available. I include styles that are slimmer or more protective, as well those with full-screen protection and handy features like a kickstand. For now, many of these links will take you directly to the manufacturer's website. But the cases should be available at Amazonand others in the near future.

iPhone case that is consistently top-notch

Speck has shipped many of its iPhone 12 Case designs to iPhone 13, including the popular transparent models, the Presidio Perfect-Clear or Perfect-Clear without Grips, as well as the Presidio2 Pro (the rose one). Speck's grip cases with MagSafe included cost $10 more. MagSafe cases have the advantage of allowing you to attach your MagSafe accessory directly to the case.

All models now have drop protection from 13 to 16 feet depending upon the model. The cases cost $40 and come in a variety colors. However, Speck will often offer a discount to first-time buyers.

Solid iPhone case for under $20

Cyrill is a sister company to Spigen. Its cases are slightly more stylish than Spigen's, but they do cost a little more. We are linking to the Leather Brick, which is shown here in cream (it is faux "vegan") leather. However, the $17 Silicone (pictured in teal), and the transparent $17 Cecile case are equally good. The Silicone case is a replica of Apple's Silicone, but without the MagSafe.

MagSafe Cases at an Affordable Price

MagSafe cases can become quite costly, but the Ultra Hybrid Mag from Spigen is an excellent value at $20. Spigen also sells the case in a non Mag version for $5 less. Spigen Mag Armor also came in my consideration, but the accessories seemed to stick better to the Ultra Hybrid Mag.

Spigen's transparent cases provide reasonable protection and no drop rating. Spigen Tough Armor, which comes with a kickstand, can be purchased for $17. I prefer Spigen Ultra Hybrid cases, which also have an integrated kickstand.

It is important to note that many of these clear cases are cheaper and can become yellowed over time.

MagSafe combo stand and case

Moft Case, Stand, and Wallet Set

This combo includes a MagSafe pouch and a MagSafe wallet which can convert into a stand. Moft is offering the combo in a variety of colors in a pre Black Friday sale for $58. It's a great deal for a beautiful case and MagSafe wallet/stand accessory, which can hold up to three cards.

Best slim OtterBox cases

OtterBox Symmetry Series Plus

OtterBox was a well-known brand for its Defender series cases. However, most people prefer something smaller and more lightweight. Symmetry's slim profile and beveled edges make it both sleek and protective. A raised bumper acts as a screen protectant.

Many color options are available including clear. The Symmetry Plus Clear MagSafe (pictured middle in red) is my favorite. The Symmetry Plus Pop case (pictured to the left) integrates a PopSockets PopGrip. It is also wireless charging-compatible. The Symmetry Series Plus (in pink) comes in a variety of colors. You can also get a MagSafe version for just $10.

Prices range between $50 and $60. OtterBox offers a discount on first-time customers.

OtterBox's Commuter bag offers raised bezel protection, slimming and grips on its back. That model is great and also available in MagSafe version for $10 extra.

MagSafe Case Excellent

MagSafe, LifeProof

I have many cases samples, and this one is my favourite. OtterBox has LifeProof, and you can see (excuse me the pun) how OtterBox influenced LifeProof's See MagSafe Case. It arguably has an even cleaner look and lines than OtterBox Symmetry Series case.

For $10 less ($50), this case can be purchased in a clear version with MagSafe, but this case is better if MagSafe is something you are looking for. There are a few color options available (the picture shows the purple/pink model, but it reads more like burgundy) as well as an ability to withstand drops of up to 6.8 feet.

All return for the iPhone 13; while they're great and also have MagSafe (except in the Wake), I believe the See is the best case for everyday use. The protection is the same at 6.6 feet, but the Next and Fre offer greater water and dust resistance.

LifeProof, along with many other case-makers has been more eco-friendly in recent years. LifeProof's Wave is made of 85% ocean-based, recycled plastic. LifeProof’s other cases are made from 45-50% recycled material.

Cases made of swanky leather

Nomad's Horween leather case line is now available for the iPhone 13. These cases, like previous Nomad models are designed to develop a "rugged” patina over time due to the oils in your skin. Modern Leather Cases come in three colors: black, brown, and a lighter color I like. They have MagSafe and are drop-proof to 10 feet (3 meters). The Modern Leather Folio costs $80.

You can also get a Sport version at $40. This is not a leather case but looks very nice.

Slim, stylish, protective iPhone case

British case manufacturer Gear4, now owned Zagg by, makes cases that are as good as OtterBox and Speck. They're lined with D3O shock absorb material, and feature beveled edges to protect your smartphone. The Santa Cruz Snap (left), and the Brooklyn Snap, (right), are MagSafe-equipped. They can be dropped to 13 feet. Many other styles of cases are also available, many with striking designs.
